Kintsugi, is the ancient Japanese art of fixing pottery that is broken. Instead of discarding the broken pottery, a tree sap lacquer that is dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum is used as an adhesive. Each repaired piece then emphasizes the crack or fracture with a beautiful line of gold, silver, or platinum.
The old is repaired, the piece is renewed, and that which appeared broken or useless has a new beauty. What if we took this ancient art and applied it to our lives? What if we were able to look at our cracks and fractures; that which we think shows us as damaged; and instead could see this as something which makes us more priceless or beautiful?
